HMA Summer 2026 Academic Internship

10 Weeks | Monday, June 9 – Friday, August 7, 2026

This is an academic internship designed for students seeking to earn school credit through real-world music industry experience. Open to students aged 18+ enrolled in a college or university internship program.

Students with alternate scheduling needs, including UCLA quarter-system students or those with specific hour requirements, are encouraged to apply and may note their availability in the application.

Location: Los Angeles area. Hybrid schedule with approximately 1-2 in-person days per week. In-person presence increases toward end of July for our 4-Day Summer Day Camp. LA-based candidates preferred.

Anticipated Hours: 8-15 hours/week, flexible based on school requirements

Languages: English required. Spanish strongly preferred.

Compensation: Academic credit through your institution

About Hopeless Music Academy

Hopeless Music Academy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit providing tuition-free music and music business education to under-resourced youth aged 12-17 in the Los Angeles area.

Our programming is led by experienced music industry professionals and is designed to open doors for young people who would otherwise have limited access to the industry. We shed light on real career paths, build practical skills, and create meaningful connections for the next generation.

All programming is provided at zero cost to students and families.

Objective

Build practical skills in music industry operations, marketing, social media, fundraising, youth programming, and organizational development within a real start-up non-profit environment.

You will start as a general intern. As your strengths and interests become clear, your role may develop further into areas such as marketing, operations, or program support.

Responsibilities May Include

Collaborate with our marketing team on content ideation, creation, and posting for HMA social channels

Support fundraising research and outreach efforts

Contribute ideas to program planning and team brainstorms

Assist with in-person student recruitment in the LA area

Co-develop and teach lessons on music or music business topics with support from the Program Director

Serve as a teaching assistant during youth programming sessions

Capture behind-the-scenes photo and video content

Provide administrative support across program operations

Complete research, file organization, and task management as needed

Assist in the preparation of presentations, documents, and materials

Support event planning and program-related logistics

Coordinate thoughtful touches such as gifts and notes for volunteer instructors

Qualifications

Humble and genuinely eager to learn

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

Proactive - you anticipate needs and act without being asked

Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

Comfortable in a small, fast-moving, start-up environment

Familiarity with Google Workspace, Instagram, and TikTok

Passion for music, the creative industries, or community work is a plus
