Controller (Construction)

<p>A growing commercial and industrial specialty contractor is seeking an experienced, hands-on Financial Controller to oversee financial operations, accounting processes, internal controls, project profitability while supporting strategic decision-making.</p><p><br></p><p>This role is ideal for a proactive professional who thrives in a fast-paced, rapidly growing project-based environment and enjoys improving processes and driving financial excellence.</p><p><br></p><p>Core Responsibilities</p><ul><li><strong>Management Responsibilities:</strong> Directly manages three or more employees in the Accounting Department</li><li><strong>Job Costing & WIP Accounting:</strong> Accurately allocate labor, materials, equipment, and indirect costs by job, phase, and cost code to produce reliable Work-In-Progress (WIP) reports.</li><li><strong>Budgeting & Forecasting:</strong> Collaborate with project managers and estimators to develop project budgets, monitor cost variances, and manage rolling financial forecasts.</li><li><strong>Financial Reporting:</strong> Prepare month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow) for senior executives and ownership.</li><li><strong>Contract & Risk Management:</strong> Review vendor and subcontractor contracts, track retainage, verify lien waivers, and support certified payroll compliance.</li><li><strong>Cash Flow & Treasury Management:</strong> Monitor daily cash receipts and disbursements, forecast cash needs, and ensure adequate working capital.</li><li><strong>Internal Controls:</strong> Implement and maintain robust financial controls to prevent errors, optimize billing (including AIA Billings), and streamline accounts payable/receivable.</li><li><strong>Audit & Tax Preparation:</strong> Coordinate annual financial audits and work with external CPAs for corporate tax filings.</li></ul><p><br></p><p>Qualifications & Requirements</p><ul><li><strong>Education:</strong> Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or MBA is highly desirable.</li><li><strong>Experience:</strong> 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years in a financial leadership role specifically within the construction or real estate industry.</li><li><strong>Software Expertise:</strong> Proficiency in Timberline (Sage) or construction-specific ERPs and accounting platforms.
